NBC Universal Sports

The NBC Universal Sports Network has added “In The Shadow Of The Mountain” to its programming for this winter. It will be shown on Monday nights as part of their “Adventure Monday Night” programming. We will provide details on the schedule when they become available. It’s good to know that ITSOTM still has some life left in her after first premiering to a packed house in Dunedin, NZ back in November of 2010. Now it will be available to some 35 million households across the USA.

If you are a company that is interested in advertising during the commercial breaks of ITSOTM, get in touch and we can work something out.

Hello Europe!

Greeting fans and followers of “In The Shadow Of The Mountain”! It’s been a while and I’ve come from the shadows to announce some of the new stuff that has come to light.

For our European friends there are 2 festivals that have accepted ITSOTM into their programs, and they are both early November. The first is the 23rd International “Berg + Abenteuer” Film Festival in Graz Austria. It goes from Nov 9-12th, and the program has yet to be printed.

Your other option to support ITSOTM in Europe will be at the 29TH Unnim Mountain Film Festival of Torelló with a showing on November 13th.

I know it may be a longshot, but if there’s any chance that you’ll go to either of these festies, please email me ASAP!

Wanaka Mountain Film Festival

This weekend is the exciting and prestigious Wanaka Mountain Film Festival

This is of course a very special event for ITSOTM because Wanaka was indeed the place that our film was based in and filmed around. There was tons of support from the Wanaka climbing community for the making of this film and we were also very honored that ITSOTM was awarded a special jury prize. So on behalf of Hugh and myself (Max) I want to say thank you so much once again to the festival for featuring our film this year and to all the Wanaka people without whom we could not have made the film.

As a side note, I am writing this from the Dunedin Airport, about to board a plane to leave NZ, where I have spent the past 2.5 years. I had no idea what was in store for me when I came here back in 2009 to do a Masters at Otago. Looking back on it, its been amazing to have the privilege of living, studying and working here. To all my friends that I met here and have worked with, thanks for the memories. I am sure we’ll make more as soon as I figure out a way to get back here!

Adios!

-Max

Mountain Film in Telluride

ITSOTM has been selected for the Mountain Film in Telluride festival, which happens Memorial Day weekend May 27-30th in beautiful Telluride, Colorado. We’re very pleased to be recognized there as it is one of the USA’s leading mountain film festivals. The schedule is not out yet, but they’ve just put together a new nice-looking website. If anyone is in Telluride, check out the festival! There’s going to be some outdoor screenings this year at Telluride Town Park, what a great way to kick off the summer.

Many thanks to Mountain Film for the recognition, we are honored to be a part of this year’s festival program. And we are so happy that our film will be shown to an audience in such a dynamic mountain climbing community as Colorado.

New Zealand North Island Premiere: 9th March, Wellington @Paramount Theatre

Hello, we are pleased to announce that In The Shadow Of The Mountain will be screened in Wellington at the Paramount Theater on Wednesday 9 March. Tickets will be available at the door for $10.00 or are available at this number: PH: 04 3844080.

There will be drinks at 7:30 PM and the show begins at 8:30. Also being screened that evening are 2 great films by some of our friends. First is Without Rain, a documentary short by Splashroom Media. It’s about a small village in the remote mountains of Nepal facing challenges to their way of life brought on by climate change.

River Dog was made by Daniel Oscar Hunter and James Muir. Here’s a synopsis:

In the remote New Zealand countryside the underbelly of a farming community continues to pollute the water and destroy the last remaining natural values of the Pahaoa River. Yet not all is lost. One farmer and his team of dogs challenge the status quo, battling against all odds to keep the river clean, protect the wildlife and to simply survive in this isolated and lawless land.
